What we collect. What we don't.

TL;DR: your financial data never leaves your device. Below is the long version.

The short version

Horizon Map is a desktop app. Everything you enter into it, income, spending, debts, savings goals, receipts, all of it, is saved only on your own computer. It is never uploaded, synced, or sent to us or anyone else. We couldn't see your financial data if we wanted to; there's no server on our end that receives it.

The only personal information we ever collect is your email address, and only if you buy the app, so we can send your license key. That's covered in detail below.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored locally in the app and never transmitted anywhere:

You control backups yourself: the app's Export feature saves this data to a file on your own computer, and Import loads a file you previously exported. Neither of those actions involves us, a server, or the internet, they only touch files already on your device.

The one connection the app makes on its own

On startup, Horizon Map checks GitHub's public release page to see if a newer version exists. That's the only network request the app makes without you initiating it. The check sends nothing about you or your data, just a request for the latest version number, and GitHub responds with what's currently available.

If a newer version exists, you'll see a banner offering to update. Updates are never installed automatically, you choose when (or whether) to update.

What we collect when you buy Horizon Map

Purchases are handled by Gumroad, not by us directly, so Gumroad's own privacy policy covers your payment details (card number, billing info). We never see or store your payment information ourselves.

When a purchase completes, Gumroad sends us your email address so we can generate and deliver your license key. That email address is used for exactly one thing, sending that key, via EmailJS. It is not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing, and not shared with anyone beyond the services listed below that are directly involved in delivering your key.

How the license itself works: once you have your key, the app checks it entirely offline using cryptographic signature verification. Activating Horizon Map does not require an internet connection and does not send anything back to us.

Services we rely on

A few outside services are involved in getting Horizon Map to you and processing a purchase. None of them receive your financial data, only what's needed for their specific job:

What we don't do

Children's privacy

Horizon Map is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes, meaningfully, like adding a new third-party service, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Since Horizon Map's data model is "everything stays local," we don't expect that to change without a very good reason.
